WAFLW Team of the Week – Round 13

IT was a fascinating Round 13 in the WAFLW competition with a host of standout performances to earn spots in the Team of the Week while the finals race is heating up.

We had four new faces in the Team of the Week for Round 13 with Subiaco pair Tiah Toth and Jamie Rust named for the first time along with South Fremantle's Pia Durk and Zoe Huggett. It was also Huggett's first game of 2022.

Then there was Peel Thunder's Kate Bartlett kicking seven goals to be named to the Team of the Week for a seventh time with South Fremantle's Lauren Wakfer also earning a seventh nomination and Peel's Ebony Dowson an eighth.

The Round 13 results saw East Fremantle maintain their undefeated record this season beating West Perth 14.9 (93) to 0.2 (2) at New Choice Homes Park on Saturday.

Peel Thunder also consolidated third position on the ladder after 13 rounds but they had to come from behind to beat South Fremantle 9.7 (61) to 7.5 (47) at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

The round then wrapped up on Sunday at Leederville Oval with Subiaco keepings its finals hopes alive beating Swan Districts 6.9 (45) to 4.4 (28).

The Round 13 results in the WAFLW competition leave East Fremantle on top of the ladder with a perfect 10-0 record.

It all leads to another fascinating round to come this weekend for Round 14 starting on Saturday afternoon with Peel Thunder playing Swan Districts at Mandurah's Lane Group Stadium.

Then on Sunday, Claremont takes on South Fremantle at Revo Fitness Stadium and Subiaco plays West Perth at Leederville Oval.

Each week of the WAFLW season during 2022, we will be selecting a Team of the Week as well, and here's how the side for Round 13 came together.

East Fremantle maintained its undefeated record this season with a big win over West Perth at home on Saturday with Sharon Wong starring in the midfield. She earned a spot in the Team of the Week for a fifth time this season on the back of her 28 disposals, four marks, four tackles and four inside-50 entries.

Zipporah Fish earned a spot on the wing as well from the Sharks to be named to the Team of the Week for a second time this year having delivered 25 possessions, six inside 50s, four marks and two tackles.

Larissa Versaci was named to the half-forward flank from East Fremantle on the back of kicking three goals from 22 touches and nine marks in the big win against West Perth.

Julia Teakle earned her spot on the other half-forward flank to be named in the Team of the Week for a sixth time so far in 2022 having kicked three goals for the Sharks from eight kicks and seven marks for the afternoon.

Ashlee Atkins continued her outstanding form for East Fremantle to be named in the Team of the Week for a third successive round. She earned a spot on the interchange after her 26 touches, 11 marks, seven tackles and three goals.

Reigning premiers Peel had to dig deep on Saturday before overcoming South Fremantle with Ebony Dowson earning he eighth selection in the Team of the Week. She was named in the back-line after finishing with 16 touches, two marks and two tackles.

The most obvious selection all season went the way of Kate Bartlett after she kicked seven goals for Peel in the win over South Fremantle from 13 kicks, three marks and three tackles. She has now been named in a Team of the Week seven times in 2022 and has kicked 35 goals now in 10 matches.

Chloe Wrigley was named on the ball again after producing a performance made up of 20 disposals and nine tackles for Peel to earn a spot in the Team of the Week for a sixth occasion this season.

Jaide Britton is also becoming a regular in the Team of the Week from Peel. She had another strong game on Saturday in the win against South Fremantle with 20 possessions, five marks, four inside 50s and a goal.

Pia Durk was impressive down back for South Fremantle against Peel and earned a spot at centre half-back in the Team of the Week after finishing with seven possessions and six tackles along with her strong defensive display.

Zoe Huggett was playing her first game of the season for South Fremantle and made an immediate impact to earn the centre half-forward slot in the Team of the Week after kicking three goals from five kicks.

Lauren Wakfer was the standout in the ruck across the three games this round as well to take that slot in the Team of the Week for a seventh time in 2022. She delivered 14 touches, 26 hit outs and five tackles for the Bulldogs.

Poppy Stockwell was another impressive option in attack for South Fremantle and earned a spot on the interchange as a result of kicking two goals from six kicks and five tackles.

Subiaco delivered its best performance of the season to beat Swan Districts on Sunday and Jamie Rust earned a spot in the Team of the Week for the first time in 2022 down back having delivered a standout defensive performances along with four kicks and three tackles.

Maddie Dodd was named to the half-back flank as well from Subiaco and was named to the Team of the Week for a third time this season. She finished with nine possessions and three tackles in Sunday's victory.

Tiah Toth was playing her second game of the season for Subiaco and was instrumental in the win to earn a spot on the wing after delivering 18 disposals, four marks, four tackles and four inside-50 entries.

Amy Mulholland was named to the forward-line in the Team of the Week from Subiaco after kicking three goals to go with 15 kicks, six entries inside the forward 50, four marks and two tackles.

Tarnica Golisano was named on the ball having earned a spot in the Team of the Week for a sixth occasion so far in 2022. She produced another superb performance in Sunday's win for Subiaco made up of 25 touches, six tackles, five marks and five inside 50s.

Tess Lyons had another strong showing the ruck for Subiaco to earn a spot on the interchange following her 21 hit outs to go with five possessions against Swan Districts.

Abbygail Bushby played down back on Sunday for Swan Districts and was so impressive she earned a spot in the back-line in the Team of the Week after finishing with 15 disposals, four inside-50 entries, three tackles and two marks.

Swan Districts' other representative in the Team of the Week for Round 13 was Jaime Henry. She took a spot on the interchange after producing 19 touches, seven tackles, six inside 50s and four marks.
