UNDER 16S ACADEMY SQUAD NAMED

Monday, February 22, 2016 - 12:48 PM
After a two month pre-season campaign, the Ocean Hill Peel Thunder Under 16 Squad has been named.

Players in the squad have undergone their first pre-season at WAFL level, with players participating in a number of training sessions, skill and fitness tests and two scratch matches.

The squad of 35 will participate in a match on Sunday 28 February against Banksia Hill Detention Centre, and the following weekend a day camp at Garden Island Naval Base on Saturday 5 March. The squad will then begin their carnival at Bendigo Bank Stadium against Claremont on Saturday 12 March at 5:00pm. The aim of the program is to continue to develop all players within a WAFL environment both on and off the field.

The squad will play six games over the carnival, with players hoping to be in the mix for the WAFL Under 16 All Star game on Sunday 17 April.

The squad will travel to Melbourne in July to take on the Bendigo Pioneers, as well as take in the football environment in Melbourne with trips to the MCG, Etihad Stadium, the opportunity to watch three AFL games and visit some AFL clubs.

The squad, coached by Craig Otto, along with assistant coaches Dave Mews, Ashley Snow and Brad Perry, consists of 26 players from the Peel Metro region, as well as nine boys from the South West. The squad also includes three 17 year old developing players, in a new initiative from the WAFL, to allow these players to continue to develop within a WAFL environment.
