League

The league side went to the Showgrounds to play a Claremont side which had won their last 3 games. Coming off our resounding win against South Fremantle we had great optimism that with our best effort we would be really competitive.

Unfortunately we were very disappointing and lost to Claremont whom displayed the characteristics that we were looking for in pressure the opponent and use the ball well.

We remain upbeat and positive as we go into a group of games at home against the three Perth sides.

We have put ourselves along with many teams in the mix to challenge for September action and look forward to the challenges ahead.

After 9 games we sit 4th on the ladder having played only 3 games at home and every game from now is going to be critical so we are really looking to getting great support from our loyal supporters.

Reserves

On Saturday we travelled up to the Claremont where the Oval is quite different (round more so than oval) and the playing surface was tricky and slippery.

After a slow start where we conceded the first two goals the players really responded as a good team should and kicked 8 of the next 11 goals. Total belief in yourself can only come from a winning culture and we believe that whilst this side is young, if we all hold firm we can hopefully reap these benefits towards the end of this year and into next season. We went into the 1/4 time and 1/2 time breaks with only a couple points separating both sides. Some of our passages of play were really encouraging for our supporters but we still let ourselves down with the occasional turnover which we are really working hard at training to minimise. At half time we rejigged our structure slightly and the style of play we showed in the 3rd Qtr was what we have been searching for this year. Our forwards started to get on top because our ball movement was a lot slicker and hence were able to put some real scoreboard pressure back at Claremont. We were able to really lock down on our oppo and then dominate to the 3/4 time break. In a tense final Qtr Claremont really applied the blow torch and regained the lead only minutes before the final siren. But to our players credit we stuck it out and were able to wrestle the lead back just before the final siren and held on for a really well earned and hard fought win. There were many good players for Peel and some men could count themselves unlucky to miss the final Best players list.

Would love to see all our supporters on the weekend coming to Bendigo Bank stadium at home to watch us challenge West Perth this Saturday at 11.30 am.

Colts

This week the colts faced the top of the table Claremont in a return fixture at the Showgrounds. In the previous encounter the Thunder conceded 7 goals in the third term and despite wrestling back control in the last quarter went down by 12 points. Over the past couple of weeks including the state-game bye the teams focus has been on ball movement and communication to enable more efficiency going forward. Whilst the team in recent weeks has been competitive, scoring has been an issue.

Following one of the best weeks on the training track in the last few months, the team certainly capitalised on the rejuvenated spirit with a terrific team performance which we have been striving to achieve. The team won all four quarters in a tough encounter and whilst the accuracy in front of goal could have made the margin more significant the 108 to 26 point win was one of the best in recent years. The team had significant contributors throughout the game, and the team defence was a highlight which prevented Claremont from gaining any control on the game.

This week will again be another challenge for the team taking on West Perth at Home, a big week on the track and an opportunity to show another level of improvement.
