WAFC Congratulates 2022 AFL National Draftees

Wednesday, November 30, 2022 - 11:04 AM by Mark Readings

Congratulations to the nine Western Australian players added to AFL lists via the 2022 AFL National Draft over the past 24 hours.

Five West Australians were selected on Monday night, the most in the first round since 2007.

Following that success story, a further four WA based players have been added to AFL lists on day two.

Hugh Davies became the second player from Claremont to be taken in the Draft, with the 18-year-old rebounding defender selected by the Fremantle Dockers at pick 33.

Fellow defender Jed Adams from Peel Thunder was snapped up by Melbourne at pick 38, the final selection in Round 2.

East Fremantle’s Kaleb Smith is heading to Richmond, the talented defender taken at pick 49 by Richmond.

The Tigers opted to take another West Australian with pick 55, with South Fremantle midfielder Steely Green packing his bags for Punt Road.

WAFC State Talent Manager Adam Jones congratulated those who were selected and paid tribute to their clubs, coaches and family members for their support.

“These are all very talented players who’ve been rewarded for their dedication and commitment to begin their AFL journey.

It's a credit to the Schools, Junior & WAFL clubs, coaches and family members for their support in helping each individual reach their dream of being drafted into the AFL,” Jones said.

The WAFC State Talent Manager understands the disappointment for those players who missed out.

“For the players who weren’t selected, they shouldn’t give up hope.

There remains plenty of opportunities to be picked up outside of the Draft and I encourage them to return to their WAFL clubs and continue to work hard towards earning a place in the AFL system,” he said.
