Lees added to WAFLW Coaching Staff

Monday, February 17, 2020 - 9:50 AM by Owen Davies

Tim Lees will take over the duties of Senior Development Head Coach in 2020. Lees, an AFL U/16's State Representative in 1996, played Senior Football for numerous teams, clocking up more than 300 games and kicking more than 500 goals. He has been coaching both Football and Cricket at both Junior and Senior Levels since 2006. Most recently at Mandurah Mustangs from 2014-18 as a Reserves Assistant Coach and last season as League Assistant Coach.

Having played as a Ruck and at both ends of the ground, Lees is keen to begin sharing his knowledge and experience with the group. "I am excited to be on board to assist Steve and his coaching team in season 2020. I am passionate about creating club culture that provides a platform for players to achieve to the best of their ability. I am a primary teacher by trade and have a love of seeing improvement in individuals. I am a big believer in empowering the group I coach to set the rules and standards and stick to them. I am loyal, approachable and will have the players' back at all times." Lees said.

Tim has a young family, with son Michael (5) and daughter May (8) both passionate footy fans and play at nearby Mandurah Mustangs, he would like to extend thanks to his wife Nat for her support on the new position and impart his favourite quote "The true test of character is not in how much you know what to do, it is how you behave when you don't know what to do." - from Peter 'Butch' Butcher Boyup Brook/Boyanup Capel Dardanup/Eaton Boomers legend and his all-time favourite coach.

The Senior Development side will look to build on a what was a relatively successful 2019 campaign. Last season senior WAFL players Ben Howlett and Matt Piggott led the girls to a 4th place 10-6 record and a Semi-Final birth, unfortunately they couldn't progress any further as they went down in wet and wintery conditions at Leederville Oval to East Fremantle.

If you see Tim around at training on Wednesdays or Fridays please introduce yourself to him and welcome him to our Club.
