PTFC Colts Squad announced for 2019

Thursday, February 21, 2019 - 4:39 PM

From commencing in mid November with an initial squad of 80 players, the Peel Thunder Colts have finalised their squad for the 2019 Simply Energy WAFL Colts competition.

The Simply Energy Colts competition is the premier junior football competition in Western Australia. The squad contains 45 boys and 2 train on players who have had interrupted pre-seasons from the Peel metro and country zones. The squad comprises 19 boys born in 2002, 21 born in 2001 and 7 2000 born players.

The squad has been undertaking an intensive pre-season program under the leadership of new head coach Michael Glassborow. The squad has been training 3 nights a week over the past three months and the pre-season phase culminates in a combine testing/team building day on Sunday 24th February at Aquinas College and Peel Thunder Football Club. In a great result for our country zone, 14 players have been selected this year who have been training at regional academy sessions in Brunswick and Donnybrook. There are also 10 boys that weren’t selected in either the 2018 Under 16s or Colts programs in this years squad which shows that the pathway is never closed for players who may have missed selection this year.

The squad will play three practice matches through late March in the lead in to the round 1 clash with West Perth at David Grays Arena on 6th April.

Talent manager John Deitz gave his thoughts on the squad:

“The players selected in the squad have all shown some great improvement over the pre-season block. Our coaching staff have been working hard with the playing group on our basic skill development and trying to keep our game style really simple. We are excited by having 19 2002 born players in the squad and are looking for them to develop alongside the older boys who have had exposure and experience at this level. Our older players have shown some strong leadership on the track and we look for this to continue into the upcoming practice matches.”

The colts will train on Tuesday and Thursday nights through the season at Rushton North.

Volunteer roles are still available for anyone who may be interested in coming on board for season 2019. Please Contact John Deitz jdeitz@wafc.com.au for any further enquiries.
