Ocean Hill Estate Peel Thunder 16’s v Swan Districts 16’s
With Coach Aaron Ballantyne

Peel Thunder – 8.11 (59) d Swan Districts – 7.6 (48)

The Ocean Hill Estate Peel Thunder 16’s continued their carnival on Saturday the 7th April in an away fixture against Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval.

Playing in the later time slot of 5pm the boys were challenged with a new preparation structure.  We began the game brightly, getting the first goal on the board through small forward Liam Pember,  slotting a set shot from close to the boundary. We managed to follow that up with another goal a few minutes later through key forward Zac Trigwell (5 Goals). The rest of the quarter was a tight battle, with the boys pressure around the ball and tackling leading the way.

We managed to play some good football throughout the 2nd and 3rd quarters and really looked to play the way we have trained since December.  Plenty of pressure and looking to get the ball to the outside runners, which the boys did.  Our backs were very good with their positioning and one on one efforts.  The midfield worked together and got on top in the clearances, while our forwards all had their own space and were hitting up at the ball carrier.

Heading for home and up by 30 points, Swans decided to roll the dice a bit and have a lot of players push forward. They set up a good wall, that the boys struggled to get the ball through.  When we did run and carry with handballs, we managed to get the ball going forward.  Swans did dominate the quarter on the score board but our boys held their own throughout.

All the coaches were happy with the boys attitude and effort.   We came away with an 11 point win.

This week we finish the 16’s carnival with a home game against the Perth Demons on Sunday 15th April at Bendigo Bank Stadium. Bounce down is at 5pm. With the club hosting its annual District Day for all the junior clubs in the area its will be a great day to come down and watch some football.

Best:
Trigwell, Avery, Stone, Yaccob
